Work on the School Team Leadership Guide for Sustainable Innovations is now well underway. This guide will offer practical support to school leadership teams who want to plan, introduce, and sustain innovation in a consistent and realistic way.
The first step in this process is the creation of the Competence Profile for School Innovators, a clear description of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that help school leaders manage innovation effectively. To build this profile, the project partners carried out a large survey campaign across Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Spain, gathering responses from more than 250 school leaders. Their input helps us understand which competences matter most when it comes to keeping improvements alive over time, whether related to strategic planning, teamwork, communication, or personal qualities such as openness, persistence, and the ability to reflect.
Alongside the survey, focus group sessions with school leadership teams are currently taking place. These discussions give us valuable insights into the real experiences of school leaders and help us understand which competences support long-term innovation in practice. Participants also learn from one another, which adds depth to the process.
All findings gathered so far feed directly into the writing of the Guide. The development process includes comprehensive review and feedback to ensure that the final version is clear, relevant, and aligned with both research and everyday school realities.
Further updates on the guide’s development will be shared on the project website as the work progresses.
